A man has been arrested in a hostel following explosions near Kyambogo University that caused panic among residents, who initially feared it was a terrorist attack. The suspect is currently being held at Jinja Road Police Station on charges of illegally possessing explosives.

During the arrest, the police discovered various chemicals, fuses, and other items commonly used in the production and detonation of explosives. Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman Patrick Onyango confirmed the arrest but stated that he is still awaiting more details regarding the case.
The loudest explosion occurred on Tuesday at 1 pm, causing concern among residents. Mr. Kuchana, a local resident, began investigating the incident after being contacted by worried villagers. With the assistance of the police, they were able to locate the crime scene.
The suspect initially claimed to be a final-year engineering student at Kyambogo University. However, when asked to provide his admission letter and school identity card, he failed to do so. He then changed his story, stating that he had completed his studies and was currently interning in the city center. He claimed that the explosions were part of his personal tests.
Due to the suspect's inconsistent statements, it was decided that he should be detained by the police for further questioning.
In other news, a teacher at Iki-Iki Secondary School in Budaka District, North Bukedi Region, has been arrested by the police on allegations of sneaking into a girl's dormitory and sexually abusing a 17-year-old student. The victim, who is a boarding student from Katya village, Iki-Iki Parish, reported the incident to the school matron.

According to the regional police spokesperson, the victim stated that on July 22, the teacher entered the dormitory where she was resting due to feeling unwell and proceeded to sexually assault her. The teacher allegedly began by engaging in inappropriate conversation and then touched her inappropriately, pulling her skirt up and molesting her.
Following a medical examination that confirmed the sexual abuse, the suspect was apprehended and is currently being held at Budaka Police Station while investigations are ongoing.
The police spokesperson expressed concern over the increasing number of defilement cases and child marriages in the region. She pledged to continue arresting those involved in sabotaging the future of young children and emphasized the need for community policing to educate people about the dangers of defilement.
The District Education Officer condemned the teacher's actions, stating that efforts have been made to discourage such behavior among teachers. He called for the law to take its course as an example to other teachers.
