A concerned citizen has written a letter appealing to president Museveni about the bad conditions the mighty Kyambogo University is in. Expressing his dissatisfaction, he wrote as below.
I made a serious mistake last Sunday when I decided to go for a jog through Kyambogo University in an attempt to return to running. Kyambogo University has always been known as a leading institution in STEM education in our country. However, as I jogged through the campus, something felt off.
Kyambogo University has always been caught in controversies, with students being accused of being local, which shouldn't be seen as a crime. But they always had the reputation of being a center of excellence in the important fields. However, it seems like that reputation is now slipping away.
This piece is meant to be playful, but considering it's about Kyambogo, the next generation of our country, let's divert our attention to it for a bit.
I am writing this as an appeal to President Museveni, the leader of our country. I propose that one day, when you have some free time away from other matters, you join me on a tour of Kyambogo University. Don't worry about the fuel expenses, I have enough money for my car. If you prefer, we can even take a boda boda or a taxi. I can arrange for your security, so there's no need to worry about that.
We can start the tour at the performing arts building and then move on to other areas of the campus. It's disheartening to see the state of the facilities, such as the murram roads and the faded coats of painting at the engineering department. If the students and lecturers can't maintain their own university, how can they be expected to solve real-world problems?
Some may argue that these are old facilities being rehabilitated, but what about the new ones that are already falling apart? Maybe it's time to consider shutting down the university and reevaluating our priorities. The grounds could be used for other purposes, such as concerts or even a shopping mall.
In conclusion, Kyambogo University is facing significant challenges, and it's crucial that we address them.
