Reports vary, but it is estimated that between 20 and 30 service members were killed and up to 60 others injured in the incident. The assailant entered the facility, where the 14th infantry brigade of the Somali army was gathered, and detonated an explosive vest. The aftermath of the attack was described as horrific by witnesses who rushed to the scene. Investigations are still ongoing, and the death toll may rise further.

Lawmakers from Somalia's parliament expressed their condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims. Deputy Speaker Abduahi Omar Abshirow referred to the attack as a national tragedy. Another parliament member, Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimu, emphasized that the victims were not ordinary youths but servicemen who had dedicated themselves to defending their country from terrorists.

The insurgent group Al-Shabab, which is affiliated with Al-Qaeda, has been engaged in a bloody insurgency aimed at overthrowing the Somali government and establishing a strict interpretation of Shariah law since 2007.

Although Al-Shabab was driven out of Mogadishu in 2011, they continue to launch violent attacks on both civilian and military targets. Earlier this month, an Al-Shabab roadside bomb killed eight civilians in a village north of Mogadishu. The group has also targeted high-profile locations in the capital. In May, they attacked a hotel, resulting in the deaths of at least 54 people, while the city of Baidoa was under siege for two weeks.

Despite previous military operations that have reduced the control of Al-Shabab, the group has regrouped and intensified its attacks recently. The Somali government's forces are currently preparing for the next phase of the operation to counter the insurgency.

The attack on the Jaalle Siyaad Military Academy is a tragic example of the ongoing violence and instability caused by Al-Shabab in Somalia. The government and international partners have continued their efforts to combat terrorism and ensure the safety and security of the Somali people.

One of the primary objectives of the government's military operation is to dismantle Al-Shabab's financial network, which includes extorting money from local communities through forced taxation.

Al-Shabab terrorist group also claimed the attack on Monday that led to death of over 73 soldiers and left more than 124 injured.

Following the deadliest jihadist attack in Somalia's history on October 14, 2017, where two truck bombs were detonated, killing at least 587 people and injuring nearly 300 more, the 14th infantry brigade was established as a response to strengthen the country's security forces.
