Traditionally, freshers are given a one-week period called the "Orientation Week" to help them adjust to university life. During this week, freshers arrive on campus one week earlier than the continuing students and are introduced to the key facilities and important aspects of university life.
The Orientation Week provides an opportunity for freshers to familiarize themselves with the layout of the campus. Registration is also a major activity during this week.
Makerere University has made it mandatory for all freshers to register centrally and then with their respective Colleges/Schools/Departments/Halls.
The important dates for this year's orientation and registration are as follows:
Saturday, 19th August 2023, to Friday, 25th August 2023 (7 Days): Orientation Week
- Resident freshers must report to their respective halls of residence or private hostels by 5.00 p.m.
- Each student is responsible for making their own travel arrangements to the university or private hostel.
Monday, 21st August 2023, to Friday, 25th August 2023: Orientation for all Freshers at Colleges/Schools.
- During this period, freshers will attend meetings with university officials at their respective colleges starting at 9.00 am every day.
